E. M. Delafield wrote short fiction, comic pieces and opinion pieces for a wide range of publications, including Punch, Country Life and — most notably — the feminist journal Time and Tide, of which she was also a director.
Many of her novels were serialised or, like the Provincial Lady books, appeared first in serial form. Her short stories were also published in newspapers and magazines. Two of her published books, As Others Hear Us and General Impressions, draw together comic essays and non-fiction articles. General Impressions includes EMD’s Time and Tide series on Men, Women and Children in Fiction and her parodies of her contemporaries.
